Free Your Data

I must confess, I’m a little data obsessed.

I love the fact that the Internet gives me access to so much interesting, publicly available data. I like tracking polling data during election cycles. I scan through demographic charts for fun. I love the public data that digg.com and mint.com make available. I spend time on sites like flowingdata.com that are dedicated to visualizing data in new and interesting ways. I can spend hours and hours looking at web analytics.

So, OK, I’m very data obsessed.

And I’m not just interested in data for data’s sake. I’m interested in data that I can put to work, data that can help me improve what I do, data that gives me insight into the world around me. So not just data, but actionable data.

Without access to data, I would not be able to do the analysis. And the problem with our current reports is they have been trapped behind the login of our Admin console, confined to the few people in the organization who have login privileges. That data wants to be free, to tell its stories of successes and areas in need of improvement to those that care most about what the data reveals.

The team at VMIX is equally obsessed about data especially as it relates to platform performance and behavior. Many of us have been working with web analytics for over a decade. So, when we created our next generation media analytics package we really wanted to create something special that would appeal to our “data obsessed” brethren whether they worked in marketing, content management, web site analytics or sales. And we knew that if only a few people had access to the data then the value of that data would be severely diminished.

So in creating our new media analytics package, the team had three main goals – we wanted to give you access to the broadest set of media data, we wanted you to be able to personalize that data so that it is specific to your needs and, most importantly, we wanted to make sure that that data could be easily shared with the entire organization. We wanted the data out of the hands of the administrator and into the hands of the marketeer, the analyst, the content producer and the executive. Our new, embeddable reports allow your data to break free from the confines of the Admin Console to live where it belongs: on your intranet, blog posts, etc.

Your data is now free to share, free to customize, free to make available to your entire organization.

You can ask questions like, “how are my sports videos doing?” or “what is the average time spent watching videos across my site?” or “what are the top five domains where people are watching my videos?” and “how are my editor’s picks working out?”.  With a few clicks, you can have the answers to all those questions. To share those customized reports, you just copy and paste the embed code. In a few minutes, you can create specialized, personalized dynamic dashboards for each department. Each person in the organization will have access to the information that is critical for them to run their business. If you wanted to, you could even share information with customers or the general public. You choose how to share the data.

So, to my data obsessed friends, our new analytics package is designed for you and for all the people in your organization who will soon become as data obsessed as we are.
