VMIX, a leading online video platform provider, today announced the release of a comprehensive new set of video analytics and reporting tools designed to help organizations make quicker, better informed decisions about the use of online video in their operations.
The new VMIX Analytics and Reporting suite, to be included standard with the company's online video management platform, introduces distinctive features not found on other platforms and will be rolled out to VMIX clients in mid-May.
"Our purpose in extending our analytics is to enable clients to quickly isolate the data that can answer key questions, giving them the exact reports they need to make smarter, timelier decisions," said VMIX President and CEO Mike Glickenhaus.
"The VMIX platform delivers the richest, most comprehensive raw analytics out there - and with the new tools, clients can now focus on elements critical to their business, collaborating and making decisions confidently in real time. In short, they can put the data to work for their businesses."
CTO and Co-founder of VMIX Greg Kostello outlined aspects of the news analytics suite that he considers unique, including the ability to:
* Track and compare multiple metrics over time in a single graphic or data-table view
* Build highly focused, personalized reports that can be exported and embedded to display dynamic, up-to-the-minute data
* Create custom reporting dashboards on company intranets or any website, allowing stakeholders and partners to see up-to-date video analytics
Kostello stressed that the company's goal in providing visual, flexible options for viewing and sharing metrics is for customers to be able to test ideas, spot viral trends and identify new business opportunities sooner, so they can build user engagement more effectively and optimize their video initiatives.
"These tools give clients exactly what they need to fine-tune advertising strategies, gauge the effectiveness of viewer-driven promotions, and optimize the mix and placement of video on their sites in real time." He went on to add that effective analytics are equally valuable to clients using video for marketing, training and customer-support programs. "Monitoring effectiveness for achieving lead generation, compliance and cost-saving objectives has never been faster or easier."

VMIX, one of the earliest entrants into the online video platform space, announced it has signed 14 additional Raycom broadcast stations. After testing the platform at five of its 46 television stations, Raycom decided to expand the offering to a wider swath of its audience. VMIX has deals in place with other media companies such as Tribune and McClatchy as well, and the company knows how to play in this space, according to comments made by CEO Mike Glickenhaus in an interview.
VMIX leverages a content network across its properties to provide additional video to partners, in addition to the television content they repurpose for online audiences. The platform also has a unique user-generated content review system that involves human oversight and automatic filtering, providing quick upload times coupled with better security and copyright controls, according to Glickenhaus.

FierceOV: Mike, what have been some highlights in 2009 for VMIX?
Glickenhaus: We've had success in spite of the challenging economy, and we're seeing people begin to see the need to focus on adding video content. They're starting to focus on digital opportunities, and they're beginning to realize it's not a luxury, but it's becoming a necessity instead.
Media and entertainment is our biggest segment, and if they (these companies) were dabbling in online video, they realize they need to get serious, if they were serious before, now they're seeing the opportunities that are created with online video offerings.

These are dark times for the newspaper business, which has been suffering from revenue erosion as classified ads, corporate recruiting, and other forms of advertising - not to mention readers - have moved to the Internet. VMIX has been around since 2005, and has built a healthy roster of customers, mainly, but not exclusively in the local media space. Operating purely as a white-label SaaS provider, its CORE media management platform now powers over 200 sites' video and multimedia offerings, reaching 60 million unique visitors/mo. Examples are regional sites such as McClatchy's KansasCity.com, Lee Enterprises' StlToday.com and Landmark's HamptonRoads.com along with others such as American Cancer Society's SharingHope.tv.
Given how crowded the space is, I'm always interested in how video platform companies articulate their points of differentiation. In this case Mike outlined several ways starting with the idea that VMIX's sale focuses on revenue generation for local media companies, rather than technology adoption.

I had a chance to talk to Greg Kostello, who is the CEO and founder of VMIX. According to him:
"Forward-looking newspapers like Tribune are combining the best of the interactive and participatory nature of the web with the value of providing first-rate news for their readership. They are leveraging their built-in regional community and providing the kind of online experience that people have come to expect. This means not just consuming news but interacting with it, responding to it, and even providing content for that community. Video and media sharing is one of the key factors. It helps drive community by allowing people to share their stories. "
