Audio not working in vMix after Windows 11 Update 24H2
A major Windows 11 update may cause audio to not work in vMix. This may or may not also present itself with the below error when trying to add or use Audio Inputs in vMix:
"Attempted to read or write protected memory"
Please note this error is generic and can present itself in multiple different scenarios for unrelated issues. In this particular case it is only this issue if:
- Audio does not work in vMix
- You have the affected Windows Update installed
- You have a vMix version installed that does not support the work around fix
This affects the Windows 11 major version 24H2, build number: 10.0.26100. Released in October 2024.
We have already applied a work around to fix this issue in a vMix update for vMix 25, 26, 27 and 28.
You can use the below link to check what version your current vMix license key is valid for:
If your license is already valid for one of these versions, please open vMix and click the Update Available link. Then follow the steps to update vMix to the latest version. Your issue will then be resolved.
Otherwise if you only have vMix 24 or any earlier version, this does require purchasing a vMix Version Update Upgrade. The cost is $60 USD and gives you access to vMix 28 and any new versions over the next year. To purchase, visit the link below:
Enter your registration key into the field and click View Upgrade Options. Then select the "vMix Update (12 Months) $60 USD" option and click Buy Now.
Once purchased, to update, open vMix and click the Update Available link at the bottom left corner and follow the steps to update. Recommend doing this after restarting Windows or first powering on Windows. After that the issue will be resolved.
If you have the latest version of vMix installed and are still having audio issues, then this would be related to a different issue entirely. In which case we recommend contacting our support team via our Contact Us form:
